BUFFTREE FOUNDATION DONATES $15,000 TO BRICK BY BRICK YOUTH PROGRAMS Proceeds of
Mardi Gras Spectacular 2006 will help fund organization's summer curriculum
NEW BEDFORD, MA (6.1.06) - - Thanks to the success of the Mardi Gras Spectacular
and the generosity of the Bufftree Foundation, young people involved in the arts-based
nonprofit Brick by Brick will have a summer of opportunity.
Bufftree Building Company co-owners Drew Tillett and Scott Costa, along with Foundation
board member Robert Baarsvik, DDS, recently presented a check for $15,000 to Brick
by Brick founder Lynn Donahue and Brick by Brick executive director Lisa Angelo
at the organization's South Sixth Street office in downtown New Bedford.
"The entire fundraising experience with Bufftree was amazing, says Ms. Angelo. "We
were true partners in this event, and the whole Bufftree team made us feel that
it was a marriage of equals. It became less about the party and more about the sense
of community. It feels good to have a company of Bufftree's depth really buy into
your mission and to know that they stand behind you. We are truly indebted to the
Bufftree Foundation's exceptional capacity for generosity."
Brick by Brick's programs use the visual and performing arts as a springboard for
learning opportunities that encourage area youth, ages 11 - 18, to develop their
own voice in the community. This summer's programming will offer dance classes for
the first time as a means of personal expression in addition to the design and music
components that comprise Brick by Brick's curriculum.
